The St. Charles Parish Legislative Committee voted to send proposed revisions to the parish's commercial zoning code forward for the formal ordinance process, following a presentation from planning staff.

Planning staff, led by Michael Albert with support from Chris Welker, told the committee the rewrite has been in the works since last fall through work between planning staff and the Planning Commission. The revised code separates the lists of allowed uses in each zoning district from the more detailed supplemental regulations that govern those uses. Staff said the changes also clarify rules for specific commercial uses including mini storage facilities, truck terminals and automobile fleet services.

No members of the public spoke when the committee opened the floor for comment.

The item, listed on the agenda as 2026-0203, now goes to the Planning Commission for a formal recommendation before it comes back to the full council for adoption as an ordinance. Residents who operate or live near mini storage facilities, truck terminals, automobile fleet operations or small assembly and manufacturing businesses in commercially zoned areas should watch for that future public hearing, since the code changes would affect what is allowed for those uses.
